I am helping a client setup his YouTube channel, but I don’t want to have to log in using his gmail account, so instead I will set up a Brand Page for him on Google+.
First I’ll log into my own gmail account.
Next I will go to business.google.com/create. I will choose “Brand” as this is for a business that does not want to promote a physical address. If I was setting up a page for a local business, such as a cafe or dog grooming company, I would choose the Storefront or Service Area options. This would promote the business via Google Maps.
I click on “Brand” and enter the Page Name, Full Website Address, and select “product or brand.” Options include “Entertainment,” “Community,” and “Other.” Next I will add a 10-word tagline (if client has one) and upload images for profile and header.
Since I am setting up this Brand Page in order to open a YouTube Account, I will not continue setting up the page further, but if this is for your business or brand, you can click on more options.
“Getting Started” will bring you to Adwords, where you can learn about online advertising on Google Search and Maps.
Since you only just set up the page, “Insights” is not going to have any information yet, but you will want to check this in the future to see what kind of traffic your Google+ page is receiving.
If you would like to be active on social media with Google+, you can “share an update.” Clicking this will bring you to another version of your Google+ page (and I have to admit, I don’t understand why the page looks different in three different places…it’s confusing). To add a “share an update” you click on the icon in the lower right hand corner.
To switch to a different brand account, click on the icon in the upper right hand corner at the top of the page (the “J” in this example – you should see your own gmail icon here).
